Prosecutor's Office Assumes Control of Ray Rice Investigation

The Baltimore Ravens running back and former Rutgers player is being charged with simple assault following a domestic violence altercation over the weekend.

The domestic violence incident involving Baltimore Ravens running back and former Rutgers University football player Ray Rice has been referred to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Atlantic City Police Department turned the case over to the prosecutor’s office to ensure all appropriate charges are considered, the prosecutor’s office announced Wednesday afternoon. Both entities will investigate the case.

Rice and his fiancée were charged with simple assault following a physical altercation outside the Revel early Saturday morning. No one was injured in the altercation.

Video footage of the incident became public on Wednesday.

Rice has been charged with simple assault, a disorderly persons offense.

Rice holds 11 Rutgers University rushing records, including career yards and career touchdowns. He was drafted by the Ravens in 2008, and won Super Bowl XLVII with the team following the 2012 season.
