Sandy Brings Substantially Higher Calls for Galloway Police

Galloway Township Police reported a higher number of calls for alarms, roadway debris and other types of hazards as a result of Superstorm Sandy, police said in reporting blotter statistics for the week of Oct. 29-Nov. 4. These calls took place during the storm and in its aftermath, police said.

The storm touched ground in Atlantic City Monday night, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m., and within minutes of the storm impacting the area, Galloway Police reported to the scene of a tree that fell through a township house. This incident occurred after Police Chief Patrick Moran said emergency management may not be able to respond to incidents during the storm, but Moran confirmed within minutes that police were responding to the scene.

In all, the police department responded to 799 calls for service, including 39 emergency medical calls, 31 fire calls, 14 domestic violence calls and 15 motor vehicle accidents. They made 12 arrests, including one DWI, and issued 44 tickets.

Police reported burglaries to two buildings, including East Fisher Creek Road on Oct. 30 and Pheasant Meadow Drive on Nov. 1.

Police highlighted one arrest, that of Justino Roman Jr., 22, of Howell, who was arrested by Ptl. Raymond Glick for DWI. Roman was released on a summons.

For the period of Oct. 22-28, police reported 758 calls for service.
