Route 40 in Egg Harbor Township Reopens

After being closed for nearly two hours, Route 40 in Egg Harbor Township has reopened as of 10:50 a.m., according to Atlantic County officials.

Route 30 at Shore Road in Absecon remains closed.

Tidal flooding forced part of Route 40, between Route 9 and West End Avenue in the West Atlantic City section of Egg Harbor Township, to shut down in both directions, according to Egg Harbor Township Police. The road was shut down for about two hours.

The Atlantic City Expressway remains open as a viable option for the 66,000 residents evacuating ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

Additionally, five shelters opened for residents evacuating and the Atlantic County Emergency Operations Center opened Sunday morning. The center will remain open throughout the duration of the storm.
