Two Injured in Crash at Pomona and Route 30

Two drivers were injured in a two-car accident at Route 30 and Pomona Road on Tuesday afternoon, March 12, according to Galloway Township Police.

Both drivers were taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center City Division by ambulance with moderate injuries because the Mainland Campus was on divert Tuesday due to an excessive number of patients.

Cheryl Lamazza, 39, of Galloway, was traveling west in a 2007 GMC Envoy on Route 30 and failed to stop for a red light at Pomona Road, according to police. She hit a 2009 Jeep Wrangler being driven by David Casey, 39, of Pennsville. Casey was traveling north on Pomona Road, police said.

Lamazza suffered a neck injury and Casey suffered a back injury and possible internal bleeding, police said. 

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus in Pomona was on divert because of an increased patient volume from both walk-in and ambulances, according to AtlantiCare Public Relations Director Jennifer Tornetta. 

"Divert is the system we use to notify EMS providers to redirect to ARMC Atlantic City Campus  or the closest hospital," Tornetta said. "If patients show up at Mainland while we are on divert, we treat them."

According to Tornetta, there was no specific incident that led to the hospital being put on divert, which was in effect until 6:16 p.m.
