Vehicle in South Egg Harbor Suffers Major Damage After Being Set on Fire Friday Morning

The gas cap was removed and a rag was stuck in the gas tank before the car was set aflame.

An unknown person set a car on fire while it sat in the driveway of a South Egg Harbor residence Friday morning, Dec. 9, Galloway Township Police said Friday afternoon.

The car, a 1998 Honda CRV, suffered major damage on the left rear of the vehicle, including the tire and the rim, police said. An unknown person had removed the gas cap and stuck a rag in the gas tank before setting the car ablaze, police said.

A passing driver alerted the homeowner to the fire, on the 1400 block of Atlantic Avenue in the South Egg Harbor section of the township, at 6:34 Friday morning. The homeowner extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. and the South Egg Harbor Fire Department responded to the scene.
