Viewfinder: Fire Prevention Week at Assumption Regional Catholic School

The Galloway Township Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with a visit to Assumption Regional Catholic School Thursday morning.

For the first time, the department brought three fire trucks to the school for a demonstration, Bayview Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Mackintosh said.The trucks were from Bayview, Oceanville and Galloway.

"We teach them about stop, drop and roll, when smoke goes up, you go down, having a meeting place," Mackintosh said. "We tell them we can replace toys. We can't replace you."

"This is a great opportunity for the kids to become familiar and friendly with the firemen," Assumption Regional Catholic School Advancment Director Cathryn Flammer said. "And they teach them what to do in case of a fire."

The department's visit to the scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to rain. It plans to visit on Friday, and the Atlantic County Library System's Galloway Branch on Saturday at 2 p.m.
