Bonanni to Remain as Acting Manager Through the End of the Year

Mayor Keith Hartman called Bonanni a top candidate for the permanent job.

Acting Township Manager Steve Bonanni will continue to serve in his position through the end of the year, the Galloway Township Council decided in a 6-1 vote Tuesday night.

Should Bonanni decide he wants to remain in place after that, he would be a leading candidate for the position of permanent manager, Mayor Keith Hartman said on Wednesday.

“He’s lived up to our expectations of what a township manager should be,” Hartman said. “He’s organized. He goes in, he goes to work and gets things done. He goes from A to B to Z and he does it quickly.”

Bonanni will continue on as the director of Public Works, as well.

The process for selecting a permanent manager will eventually be opened up, and interviews will be conducted among candidates for the position. That process could take several months, Hartman said on Wednesday.

Hartman recognized that as the acting manager and given the job Bonanni has done so far, he would be a top candidate.

“To me, he is the standard bearer,” Hartman said.

He took over the position of acting manager on Jan. 25 following the dismissal of Roger Tees as township manager.

Hartman recognized the need for stability in the position at this point in time.

“We need someone who knows what he’s doing, who’s going to be around long enough to make some changes,” Hartman said. “ … Steve’s willing to stick around and he’s doing a great job.”
