County Certifies Galloway's Tax Rate

The rate is $2.019, and residents will have one month to pay their tax bill.

Atlantic County has certified Galloway Township's tax rate of $2.019 fo 2011, the township announced Tuesday afternoon.

The tax rate includes township, county and school taxes. A home assessed at $200,000 will pay $4,038 for this calendar year.

Tax bills will be in the mail as of Friday, Aug. 5, and will be due Sept. 6. The township has advised residents there will be no 10 day grace period for the third quarter payment, and any payments received after the due date will automatically be charged the statutory interest back to Aug. 1, per state statute.

Sixty percent, or $2,460 of the tax bill is made up of school taxes, both local and regional. The township's portion of the bill is 22 percent, or $868, and the county's portion is 18 percent, amounting to 22 percent of the bill.

This will be the third consecutive year with a tax rate increase for the township, which had a tax rate of $1.969 in 2010.

The tax rate had increased steadily every year from 1997, when it was $2.6410, through 2008, when it was $3.517. A revaluation was conducted by Appraisal Systems Inc. in 2009, at which time the tax rate was lowered to $1.895.
