Residents, Council Hope for Speedy Recovery for Deputy Mayor

Don Purdy checked in to the hospital with chest pains, and is in good condition.

AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus confirmed Deputy Mayor Don Purdy checked in to the hospital, and his condition was "good" on Tuesday.

According to updates on Purdy's Facebook page, he checked in to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Mainland Campus with chest pains late Monday night.

He was in the ER as of 5 a.m.

An unnamed source with knowledge of the situation told Galloway Patch Purdy is "awake and alert, and anxious to get out."

His presence was missed and his return was eagerly anticipated at Tuesday night's council meeting.

"He suffered a scare last night and we wish him well," Mayor Keith Hartman said. "The township needs him, but more importantly, his wife and kids need him. We need to make sure he's back and he's healthy."

"We need to put him in our thoughts and prayers," Councilman Dennis Kleiner said. "He's needed back on council, in the community and with his family."

Resident Anna Jezycki stopped by the hospital to see Purdy, and said he looked good.

"To say Deputy Mayor Purdy will be missed is an understatement," resident Anna Jezycki said during the open public comment portion. "He's a vital part of this council. He has the guts to stand up and say what he thinks, and we desperately need him. ... He knows the right thing to do. I hope he returns well and rested."
