Five Things You Need to Know About Tuesday's Council Meeting

The township accepted a Homeland Security sub grant and joined in a joint suit that has already been settled for $80 million.

1.     Council completed its appointments that were still pending from Jan. 3’s reorganization meeting. These included appointments to the Go Green Galloway Sustainable Task Force and the appointment of an alternate to the conflict solicitor. Roger Steedle will be the alternate to the conflict solicitor.

2.     The township bought into a class action settlement based on a prescription drug used by an employee. That suit has been settled for $80 million, and it cost the township nothing to buy into the suit. Solicitor Michael Blee wasn’t sure how much the township would receive from the settled suit.

3.     Council voted to change its method of financing the township’s unemployment obligation. It was changed from a reimbursement rate to a contributory rate, which the township says represents a more stabile rate for the 2012 budget.

4.     Council voted to increase the 2010 Road Overlay Program to Arawak by $300. This is for a minor extra to a retrofit on Main Street, as recommended by Township Manager and Director of Public Works Steve Bonanni and Township Engineer Kevin Dixon.

5.     Council voted to accept a $10,000 subgrant from Homeland Security Emergency Management Grant Program. Federal funds of $5,000 are matched by $5,000 in local funds, which the Galloway Office of Emergency Management satisfied through the approved 2012 budget for division salaries and wages and fringe benefits.
