Furloughs for Township Employees Begin Today

The municipal complex will be closed every Friday through August.

Galloway residents needing information, marriage certificates, birth certificates, etc. from the township will have to wait until Monday to make their requests.

Furloughs for township employees began today and run through August. Furlough dates are as follows: June 22, 2012, June 29; July 5, 6, 13, 20, 27; and Aug. 3, 10,17, 24, 31.

The dates create a situation where the complex will be closed three days in a row every week, Friday-Sunday, with the exception of Fourth of July week, when the complex will be closed for five consecutive days, from July 4-8. This came as the result of a union request to replace June 15 with July 5 as a furlough day, according to Liston.

During the previous furlough periods, in 2010 and 2011, the township was closed on Mondays. An was reached in March of last year to end that furlough period.

At the same time, township employees agreed to be furloughed 12 days this year in exchange for a guarantee there would be no layoffs.

Earlier this year as part of the budget process, Galloway Township Manager Arch Liston said township workers will need to be in 2013.
