Galloway BOE to Announce Which Line Items Will Be Cut Tonight

The cuts will be made to help eliminate $362,578 in cuts mandated by the township council.

The Galloway Township Board of Education will announce which line items it will cut out of its proposed 2011-12 budget when it convenes tonight at the middle school, 7 p.m.

According to a verbal promise made by Superintendent of Schools Annette Giaquinto and Board Vice President George Schwenger to the Galloway Township Council at its , the board will not cut courtesy busing to Arthur Rann Elementary School, nor will it cut the school district’s clubs and sports programs.

The cuts will be made after the voters at the polls in the School Board Elections of April 27. It was the second year in a row the budget was defeated.

After much deliberation and debate, the council mandated $362,578 in cuts from the budget in order to approve it, but it is up to the school board to decide what it will cut, specifically.

After announcing what will be cut at tonight’s meeting, the school board will then submit its final budget proposal to the county by the end of the week.

After last year’s budget was defeated, courtesy busing was cut to all schools, but because of the unique configuration of Arthur Rann and its location to a main road, it will see courtesy busing return this year. Other schools will not.

were also cut, but parents of players on the baseball and softball teams held a series of fundraisers to help bring both teams back before the seasons began. That situation will be avoided this year because sports and clubs won’t be cut from this year’s budget.
