Galloway Council Set to Appoint New Council Member Tuesday Night

According to the agenda, an interview is still scheduled to take place.

Galloway Township Council is set to appoint its newest council member when it convenes Tuesday night, July 24, 6:30 p.m. at the municipal complex, according to the agenda posted on the township's website this week. The agenda also lists an interview as scheduled to take place.

Two of the Republican Committee's were interviewed at council's special meeting on July 12. After the interviews with , council was set to appoint a new councilman before Councilman Jim Gorman moved to table the vote until after the third appointee could be interviewed.

The third candidate is Frank Lucarelli, husband for Galloway Township Republican Chair Terry Lucarelli and a former Galloway Planning Board Member. He was unable to appear at the special meeting.

According to Terry Lucarelli and later confirmed by Township Clerk Thalia C. Kay, Frank Lucarelli has submitted his qualifications for council to the township. Mayor Don Purdy said he is prepared to move forward with an interview process with Frank Lucarelli at Tuesday's meeting. The interview will include public participation, just as the interviews with Chester and Mooney did.

The seat became available when announced his resignation on June 25. Whoever council appoints to the seat will hold it through the end of the year.

A special election will be held in November. Whoever is appointed Tuesday night may or may not be the Republican's candidate in that election. The Galloway Democratic Club have already nominated as their candidate.

The winner of the special election will hold the seat until it expires at the end of 2013.

Council also may appoint a new solicitor at Tuesday night's meeting. According to Kay, applicants for the position left open when Gov. Chris Christie appointed Solicitor Michael Blee to a spot on the Superior Court include: Eric M. Bernstein & Associates, LLC; Jasinski, PC; Fitzgerald McGroarty; Thomas Smith; Youngblood, Lafferty & Sampoli, PA; and Cooper Levenson.
