Galloway Councilman Addresses Harassment Charges

The arraignment hearing for Jim McElwee has been scheduled for Oct. 30.

Galloway Councilman Jim McElwee responded to charges of sexual harassment by offensive touching late last week after a Hamilton Township municipal judge ruled there is probable cause to move forward with the complaint.

"While I am disappointed that this could not be dismissed, I look forward to addressing the court and proving my contention that nothing inappropriate took place," McElwee said in a prepared statement issued Friday night. "I am confident that I will be exonerated and the truth will be self evident that this was no more than an attempt to embarrass me and sabotage my campaign for re-election. I want to thank my family and friends for their unwavering support during this very disturbing time!"

He has been accused by a Press of Atlantic City reporter of sexual harassment by offensive touching in an incident that allegedly took place on Oct. 8 at the municipal complex.

His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, 9 a.m. in Hamilton Township.
