Galloway Township Sees Slight Growth in Latest Census Data

The population has jumped by 771 people.

Galloway Township saw a slight increase in population over the last 10 years, jumping from 36,578 to 37,349, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau Thursday night.

Overall, Atlantic County saw an increase from 252,552 in 2000 to 274,549 in 2010, an increase of 21,997 people.

Of the 37,349 people living in Galloway, 26,860 are white, and of that number, 22,006 are over the age of 18. Both are by far the highest number in terms of race or culture, with African Americans a distant second at 4,271, 3,001 of which are 18 or older.

American Indians made up the smallest portion of the population, with 99 recorded in 2010, 70 of which are 18 or older.

According to the data, there are 3,744 Asians, 2,838 of which are 18 or older; 1,100 people are a mix of two or more races, with 597 being 18 or older; 1,266 are classified as “other,” with 863 from this group being 18 or older; and 3,752 are Hispanic, with 2,402 being 18 or older.

New Jersey was home to 8,414,350 people in 2010, according to the Census Bureau, a 4.5-percent increase from the prior census count.

The state's five most populated towns in 2000 stayed in the same order in 2010, with Newark (277,140), Jersey City (247,597), Paterson (146,199), Elizabeth (124,969) and Edison Township (99,967) leading the way.

The Census data released today will help redraw federal, state and local legislative districts. New Jersey will lose one seat in the House under the counts.
