How Much Will Township Employees Earn With 2014 Salaries?

A public hearing on an ordinance that sets salary ranges will be held Dec. 10.

From a $1,500 mayor to a $150,000 township manager, a new salary ordinance for 2014 will set the range of possibilities for all municipal employees.

A public hearing on the proposed ordinance will be held 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Galloway Township Municipal Complex.

See the proposed salary ordinance and chart of minimum and maximum salaries for Galloway Township employees.

The township administration and Township Council are beginning the process of drafting next year's budget, and salaries and wages typically represent the biggest appropriation in any municipal budget.

The ordinance does not set individual salaries, which depend on seniority and many other contractual factors. But it does set the salary range for each public job in Galloway Township.

Township Manager Arch Liston, for instance, had a salary of $116,000 in 2012 in a position that has a proposed range of $80,000 to $150,000 for 2014.

The mayor and council earned a combined $36,248 in 2012, an average of $5,178 (with a proposed range of $1,500 to $8,898 for council members and $1,500 to $9,936 for the mayor in 2014).

In the Galloway Township Police Department, a patrolman starting at the bottom can expect to earn $43,268 under the proposed ordinance. The highest a police chief could ever be paid would be $140,000.

The proposed ordinance also includes hourly rates for positions from part-time clerk ($8.50 to $20 per hour) to welder ($26 to $27.50 per hour).
