Judge Finds Probable Cause in Press Reporter's Claim Against Galloway Councilman

The arraignment for Galloway Township Councilman Jim McElwee is set for Oct. 30.

Galloway Township Councilman Jim McElwee is heading to court to defend himself against charges of sexual harassment filed by a Press of Atlantic City reporter.

Hamilton Township Judge Robert Switzer found probable cause to move the complaint forward on Thursday. McElwee’s arraignment hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30, 9 a.m., according to Hamilton Township Municipal Court.

Press of Atlantic City reporter Donna Weaver, 32, accused McElwee of subjecting her to an act of harassment by offensive touching at the municipal complex on Oct. 8.

The complaint alleges a Petty Disorderly Persons offense. The offense carries with it a maximum penalty of 30 days in prison and up to $500 in fines.

The case was transferred to Hamilton Township due to McElwee’s status as a councilman, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.

McElwee is running for re-election in Galloway Township on Nov. 5 as a Democrat. He was first elected to council in 2011.
