Snow in the Forecast—But Don't Get Excited

The Jersey Shore is expected to get a 'dusting' of the white stuff Tuesday, which could be the start of a potentially dramatic winter season.

If you wake up Tuesday morning and see snow on the ground, don't be alarmed. It'll be gone soon.

On the flip side, if your first inclination is to bust out the sled and head to the nearest hill, you might also wanna hold your horses.

Forecasts are calling for flurries early Tuesday morning, but hardly enough for any accumulation.

"There might be a little dusting," said National Weather Service meteorologist Mitchell Gaines, who said the precipitation would begin as rain overnight, then switch to snow closer to sunrise. The precipitation is expected to stop by early afternoon.

According to Gaines, it will be "too warm for any kind of accumulation"—so don't worry about your morning commute.

However, according to the Farmer's Almanac, we could be in for a frigid, flaky winter following last year's disappointingly/pleasantly (depending on where you sit) snow-free season.

"A decline in solar activity combined with ocean-atmosphere patterns in the Pacific and Atlantic will result in below-normal temperatures and above-normal snowfall during most of the winter across much of the United States," the Almanac said.

The Farmer's Almanac website doesn't provide a detailed long-range forecast for the Northeast. However, a two-month forecast for the Philadelphia region indicates a flake-free November, with snow not making much of an appearance until mid-/late December.

Definitely don't expect snow to make an appearance for the next couple weeks. It's forecast to warm up considerably over the next several days, with highs in the 50s and lows in the high 30s/mid-40s.
