is scheduled to become the recipient of the next Galloway Township Mayor’s Award when council convenes tonight, Dec. 13 at 6:30, according to an agenda posted on the township's website.

Dougherty won a $10,000 grant last month when she won the Great American Teach-Off, a contest conducted by GOOD Magazine and the University of Phoenix. The grant is applied to the Galloway Township School District, and Dougherty also won a trip to the White House during Christmas time.

Dougherty outlasted nine other teachers involved in the contest. She was nominated due to her work with children who have military parents and are constantly moving from place to place as their parents are being transferred.

The contest consisted of five questions, with each teacher posting a video response each week throughout October. The public was then able to vote on their favorites, and each week, the two teachers with the least amount of votes were eliminated.

The questions covered innovation in the classroom, teaching tips,  making a difference, peer endorsements, and what would you do with $10,000.
