Lisa Tilton said in due time, everything will be explained.

Galloway Township Clerk Lisa Tilton is taking time off for a personal matter, she said on Friday afternoon.

She didn’t indicate what the matter is, or if she is using designated time off.

She had no comment on if her time off was related to a disciplinary issue.

“I have not missed a council meeting since I took over as township clerk in 2008, and I have not taken a day off in a year and a half,” Tilton said. “In due time, everything will be explained.”

On Thursday, Deputy Mayor Don Purdy said he hoped to be able to discuss the matter in the near future.

Tilton, members of township council, Township Manager Steve Bonanni and Township Solicitor Michael Blee have all refused to comment on the situation, calling it a “personnel issue.”

She also said the resolution passed Tuesday night to allow Deputy Clerk Carol Hackney to sign checks in the clerk’s absence was not being portrayed correctly.

She said the resolution was simply for administrative banking purposes.

On Thursday, Deputy Mayor Don Purdy said he felt these were powers the deputy clerk should’ve had all along.
