Township Manager Defends Council on NextGen Project

Steve Bonanni responds to criticism of township by economic development chair.

The following is a Letter to the Editor received Monday morning by Galloway Patch.

I was somewhat surprised to read your recent article “.”

Since becoming Township Manager, I was pleased to see how much Galloway Township has done to prepare for not only the NextGen Growth but also for all economic  development opportunities. The Mayor and Council and Township staff have been tirelessly working with potential developers and exploring opportunities with area institutions and agencies.

Some of the ways the township has accomplished this is by adopting development and redevelopment plans to foster economic opportunities along Route 30 and in the vicinity of Lenox China. We extended sewer lines to accommodate a planned shopping center surrounding the newly constructed CVS Pharmacy.  Additionally, we are in the design and permitting phase for sewer extensions and crossings along U.S. Route 30 East of Pomona Road.

The township is continuing discussions with the South Jersey Economic Development District regarding our overall role in the development of the Next Generation Aviation Research Park.  Additionally, we are working with the South Jersey Transportation and Planning Organization to secure a new transit station in the Pomona area of the Galloway.

Township leadership has been actively planning for the future. We understand the effort that is necessary to prepare for development opportunities.

That is why the Township Council has formed a Planning, Development and Marketing Committee, consisting of Council members and staff, with the primary responsibility of enhancing economic development. We also have an active Economic Development Committee and the recently formed Galloway Township Business Association, both of which are made up of area business representatives. We are working closely with all of these committees in our efforts to capitalize on the Next Generation Aviation Research Park and to support our existing businesses which have chosen to be part of Galloway Township.

Stephen J. Bonanni Sr. , Township Manager
