Township Performing Drainage Project to Alleviate Flooding on West Side of Complex

Water that floods the road during storms will be directed underground, Director of Public Works Kevin McDowell said.

Galloway Township is performing a Lake Drainage Project at the municipal complex aimed at alleviating the flooding problem on the west side of the municipal complex, according to Director of Public Works Kevin McDowell.

"Right now when it rains and reaches a certain level, there's nowhere for it to go," McDowell said. "We're setting up underground storage so it has some place to go. You can either set up a retention basin or underground storage, and in this case, we set up underground storage."

According to McDowell, the project was more feasible than alternative plans, which include expanding Patriot Lake. This project comes at no cost to the taxpayers.

"It's financially responsible to do it this way," McDowell said.

The underground storage will cover the area on the west side of the complex back to Imagination Station and the Atlantic County Libaray System's Galloway Branch, and out to ShopRite.

The project should be finished by Friday.
