Absegami Boys' Soccer Team Plays for Spot in Group IV Title Game Today

The Braves host Cherry Hill East at 2 p.m.

The Absegami High School boys’ soccer team will compete for a spot in the NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV championship game tomorrow afternoon.

The Braves, seeded No. 1 in the group, will host No. 13 Cherry Hill East on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2 p.m.

Absegami advanced to the semifinal round with back-to-back shutout wins in the playoffs. On Nov. 6, the Braves defeated Southern Regional, 2-0. On Nov. 12, Absegami shut out Cherokee, 1-0.

Cherry Hill East pulled off two upsets to advance to the semifinals. On Nov. 6, the Cougars knocked off fourth-seeded Lenape, 2-0. On Nov. 9, Cherry Hill East scored a 2-1 win over No. 5 Eastern Regional.

The winner of this game plays the winner of today’s semifinal between No. 2 Washington Township and No. 11 Toms River North in the championship game on Monday, Nov. 19.

The Braves are 18-2-1 this season.

The boys’ soccer team is one of five of the school’s teams to see postseason action this fall season.

The girls’ soccer team was seeded sixth in the South Jersey Group IV playoffs, and was upset in the first round by No. 11 Toms River East, 6-2. Toms River East advanced to the semifinals, which will be played today. The Braves finished the season 9-6-1.

The girls’ tennis team advanced to the South Jersey Group IV playoffs, but lost in the first round to Cherokee, 4-1. Cherokee went on to win the South Jersey Group IV title. Absegami finished the season 10-12.

The girls’ volleyball team dropped its first round Group IV playoff match to Ridge, 2-0. Ridge won both games by scores of 25-8 and 13-8. Ridge advanced to the semifinals, which will be played today. Absegami was 11-9 this season.

The football team will play its first round South Jersey Group V playoff game Friday night, 7 p.m. at Atlantic City. The Braves are the No. 5 seed and Atlantic City is seeded fourth.
