Absegami High School Girls' Basketball Team Victorious on Senior Night

On the eve of a milestone moment in the life of Absegami High School senior Jenna Seddon, she helped lead her team to victory in her final home game in a Braves basketball uniform.

Seddon scored 11 points to lead Absegami to a 44-37 victory over Mainland in a Cape-Atlantic League matchup on Tuesday night, Feb. 5.

Today, she will sign a letter-of-intent to play soccer at Rutgers University. She will be among a group of Absegami senior athletes who officially sign this afternoon just before 2 p.m.

“This win means so much to me,” said Seddon, one of six seniors honored before the start of Tuesday night’s game. “It’s my last game. It’s always good to get a win, but this is special because it’s my last game in this gym.”

It was the last home game for Miranda Romberg, as well. Romberg scored two points in the second quarter of Tuesday’s game, as the Braves were rallying.

The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead, but the Braves battled back and grabbed their first lead of the game, 16-15, late in the second quarter. Mainland reclaimed the lead just before halftime, 17-16, but Absegami went up early in the third and never looked back.

“We had to win for our seniors,” said freshman Sara Pietropola, a freshman who put away 10 points.

Pietropola’s sister, Julia, was one of the six seniors honored before the game, along with Seddon, Romsberg, Jenna Adams and Christina Skalitzky.

“I’ll remember how much heart these seniors had,” Absegami coach Meghan Tracey said. “It was a good group to be around, win or lose.”

Seddon and Romberg were both four-year players with the program, while Adams and Skalitzky each played three.

The Braves are 5-9 with four games to go in the regular season. They won their bracket at the Boardwalk Classic for the first time since 2007, and are on a two-game winning streak after defeating Egg Harbor Township in Friday night’s Coaches vs. Cancer game.

On Tuesday night, Briella Clark had eight points for the Braves, followed by Mary Riggs with seven. Eva Sodaitis had six points.

“They’re realizing what they’re capable of,” Tracey said. “We’re young. Sara’s a freshman and the other three are sophomores. We’ve been getting so much better. We’re beginning to see how much potential we have.”

Megan Stafford led Mainland with 14 points. Christina Urban had 11. The Mustangs dropped to 9-9 overall.
