Absegami High School's Jack Willette, the District 32 champion at 145 pounds, is the No. 2 seed in the Region 8 tournament, and is set to face a wrestler from Pennsville or Paulsboro in the quarterfinal round Friday night, March 1.
The regional tournament begins at Egg Harbor Township Wednesday night, Feb. 27, at Egg Harbor Township. The quarterfinals take place Friday night, and the semifinals, finals and wrestleback rounds take place Saturday, March 2.
Willette (24-7) will face either No. 7 Adrian Feliciano (26-5), of Pennsville, or No. 10 Zach Richard (9-5), of Paulsboro. The No. 1 seed in the weight class is undefeaded Clearview junior John Vanbrill, according to brackets posted on trackwrestling.com.
Absegami freshman Yanni Patsaros (21-13) finished third in the 113-pound weight class at the District 32 tournament, and is seeded fifth in Region 8, meaning he will wrestle Wednesday night.
He opens the tournament against another freshman, 12th-seeded Jonathan Figueroa (16-21), of Williamstown. The winner of that match faces fourth-seeded Luis Rivera (22-10), a sophomore from Buena, on Friday night.
Junior Roman Rudisill (21-12) will face the toughest road of the three Absegami wrestlers involved in the Region 8 tournament. He finished third in the heavyweight division at the District 32 tournament, and is seeded 12th in Region 8.
He opens the tournament Wednesday night against Holy Spirit's Ray Ellis (28-7), the No. 6 seed. The winner meets No. 3 Cody Dooley (27-6) Friday night.
