Atlantic Cape President Elected Chairman of the New Jersey Community College Presidents Group

Atlantic Cape Community College’s president is set to become the chairman of the association representing all of the state’s community colleges, Atlantic Cape announced on Thursday, Nov. 15.

College President Dr. Peter L. Mora was recently elected chairperson of the New Jersey Community College Presidents group for the 2012-2013 academic year, the college announced. As president, he will also serve on the New Jersey Council of County Colleges’ Executive Committee, Atlantic Cape officials said. He will be sworn in to his new position at the council meeting on Nov. 26, college officials said.

The Executive Committee consists of four community college trustees and three community college presidents, and it helps shape statewide community college policies and projects, college officials said.

The fall of 2012 marked the beginning of Mora’s eighth year as college president, according to college officials. Raised in Atlantic City, he’s served the Atlantic and Cape May communities for over 30 years, according to a biography provided by the school.

Shortly after graduating from college, he began his career at Atlantic Cape as a member of the faculty, serving as Chairperson and Professor of the Developmental Studies Division.

In 1986, he was appointed Director of Institutional Planning, Research and Grants and was soon named Associate Dean of Academics, according to the school. Prior to being selected as Atlantic Cape President, Mora served as Vice President for Continuing Education and the Cape May County Campus, according to college officials.                 

According to his biography:

Mora was elected by community college continuing education officers to represent the eastern region of the United States on the National Council for Continuing Education and Training.

In 2009 he was selected to participate in the highly selective Harvard University Seminar for College and University Presidents.

In August of 2011, Dr. Mora presented a case study at the Oxford Round Table, held at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford, Oxford, England.

He has also conducted numerous seminars on community college education at national conferences and has published scholarly works in the area of community college involvement in economic and workforce development.
