Five Things You Need to Know About Monday's Galloway BOE Meeting

What else happened at Monday's meeting?

1.     Superintendent of Schools Annette Giaquinto explained a recent letter from Pamela J. Castellanos, the Executive Assistant to the County Office Administrative Unit stating that Executive County Superintendent Thomas Dowd must recuse himself from all activities pertaining to the Galloway Township School District. Dowd must recuse himself under the New Jersey Conflicts of Interest Law, which states that if the county superintendent lives in a district he supervises, he must recuse himself from anything having to do with that district. Dowd is a resident of Galloway Township, so all documents that require review and approval will be taken care of by Cumberland County Executive Superintendent Richard Stepura.

2.     The passed a resolution on the submission of the district’s Quality Single Accountability Continuum (QSAC) Statement of Assurance. Districts receive a full evaluation under QSAC every three years. In the other years, the districts complete a statement of assurance which is a form of a rubric covering all major components of QSAC, Giaquinto said. According to Giaquinto, the district submitted the statement of assurance by the due date. However, since there was not a board meeting in January until Monday night, the resolution to officially approve the statement of assurance was not completed until then, Giaquinto said.

3.     The next Board of Education meeting is Monday, Jan. 30.
