Galloway Enters Football Team in Spring Football League

Play begins today.

The Galloway Township Athletic Association's (GTAA) eighth-grade football team begins play in the Delaware Valley Spring Football League today, April 13, against Deptford in Camden.

The Delaware Valley Spring Football League is made up of nine teams from several counties in New Jersey, and is designed to give eighth graders the chance to play high school football, coach David Carmen said. Carmen and assistant coach Mike Waszen assembled a team of 23 players that will compete against teams from Deptford, Camden, Palmyra, Gloucester Township, Cherry Hill and Willingboro.

The players all have football experience from either the Galloway Renegades or the Galloway Mustangs varsity programs, said Carmen who has coached both teams over the last 13 years. Waszen and his wife served as part of the GTAA.

The team will play a five-game schedule, but no score will be kept, in an effort to ensure all players see playing time. There will be a playoff held following the regular season, with seeding determined by random draw.

“There is no substitute for playing time," Delaware Valley League Director John Borris said. “We designed this league to help young athletes to make the transition from youth football to the challenges they will face in high school.”
