Galloway Middle School Student Council Recognized With Picnic at Veterans Park

Co-advisor Dave Evans called council one of the more active in recent memory.

The current Student Council is one of the more active in recent memory, co-advisor Dave Evans said Friday morning, June 1.

From a clothing drive for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission and a Thanksgiving Food Drive to the adoption and cleanup of Wrangleboro Road and a school bathroom and the participation in Johnny's Run for those with down syndrome and other deadly diseases, the council has "made a difference in people's lives."

They also organized a pep rally to recognize academic excellence and made a donation to Gilda's Club.

"This is our way of thanking the kids for everything they've done," Evans said, adding that 33 students is the highest number of Student Council representatives ever invited to participate in the Recogntion Picnic, which is about 20 years old. "This is to recognize leadership."

Student Council representatives laid a wreath in honor of fallen veterans. Student Council President Daniel Herschman and Vice President Michael DeLuca read from the poem Freedom is Not Free, written by Kelly Strong when he was a high school senior.

The students then participated in various games and activities before being served lunch by their advisors.

Parts of the poem read by Herschman and DeLuca are documented in the video attached to the story. Herschman read first, followed by DeLuca.
