No Damage to Galloway Schools as a Result of Sandy

No Galloway Township schools were damaged during Superstorm Sandy, but some teachers were displaced as a result of the storm that touched down in Atlantic City three weeks ago, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Annette Giaquinto said during the Board of Education Monday night, Nov. 19 at the middle school.

“Several staff members did experience flooding and were displaced,” Giaquinto said. “They’re all taking a positive attitude. They have been in work and are using it as a way to recover, to get back to a new normal.”

She said she doesn’t know of any students who were displaced by the storm. There have been students enrolling in the township’s schools, but she and Business Administrator Tim Kelley estimated that number was “less than 10.”

“The regular rules of enrollment don’t apply to those coming in from another district,” said Giaquinto, adding that documents proving residency might not be available if a person’s home was flooded or in some other way destroyed.

On its website, the school district advises anyone displaced by the storm and living outside the district to contact Sharon Delaney at 748-1250, ext. 1015.

“We are also collecting donations at all our district schools through next Tuesday, (Nov. 27),” Giaquinto said. “We will donate what we collect to the Red Cross.”
