Stockton, Cornell Formalize Hospitality Agreement

Hospitality students from both schools will benefit from the agreement, administrators say.

With the flourish of a pen and the planting of a tree, Richard Stockton College and Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration cemented their agreement on a deal that will benefit hospitality students at both institutions.

gives Cornell School of Hotel Administration students lodging at Stockton’s Seaview Resort while the students work at internships in the Atlantic City area. Additionally, Cornell students may enroll in certain Stockton courses during the semester.

In exchange, Stockton students have “clear pathways for admission” to hospitality-related graduate programs at Cornell.

Representatives from Stockton and Cornell, including Stockton President Herman J. Saatkamp Jr., Dean Michael Johnson of the Cornell’s hospitality school and Dean Janet Wagner of Stockton’s School of Business, were on hand for the signing, held at Seaview Resort.

“This agreement is truly the type of academic program we envisioned when we decided to pursue purchasing the Seaview Resort,” Saatkamp said of the property Stockton purchased nearly a year ago.

“It was our expectation that our purchase of Seaview would greatly enhance our students’ educational experience and career opportunities. This affiliation is evidence that we are moving forward toward that end.”

Steven Carvell, associate dean for academic affairs at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, praised the agreement for providing experiential learning. Not only will Cornell students get internship experience, but living at the Seaview will provide daily exposure to running a resort property.

“Hands-on learning is a critical part of our students’ education, and we are excited to offer them new internship and learning opportunities through our collaboration with Stockton College,” he said.

Following the signing ceremony, Saatkamp and Johnson planted a tree at Seaview to mark the occasion.
