Stockton, Cornell Hospitality Programs Team Up

The two institutions strike a new partnership deal that seeks to offer carrots to hospitality students at both schools.

A new partnership will allow Richard Stockton College hospitality and tourism students a leg up on admissions into Cornell University’s graduate hospitality programs.

Stockton and Cornell announced on Wednesday their new partnership that seeks to give hospitality students from both institutions an advantage.

Cornell hospitality students who have internships in the Atlantic City region can now secure housing at Stockton’s Seaview Resort. Cornell students also may enroll in Stockton Hospitality and Tourism Management Studies courses or general studies courses, and participate in programming offered by the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality & Tourism at Stockton.

In exchange, Stockton hospitality and tourism students have “clear pathways for admission into Cornell’s appropriate graduate programs,” the college said in a statement.

“… This partnership allows our students access to advanced degree programs at one of the most outstanding universities in this field,” Stockton President Herman J. Saatkamp Jr. said. “Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration has produced generations of leaders in the hospitality industry. This is exactly the type of partnership we envisioned last year when we decided to purchase the Seaview Resort.”

Stockton bought the Seaview Resort last year and embarked on a $12.5 million makeover. The resort both provides a base for the college’s hospitality program and adds extra student housing to Stockton’s roster of dorm space.

The prospect of students staying at working hotel, conference center and golf resort appealed to Cornell, an administrator said.

“Hands-on learning is a critical part of our students’ education, and we are excited to offer them new internship and learning opportunities through our collaboration with Stockton College,” Steven A. Carvell, associate dean for academic affairs at the Cornell School of Hotel Administration, said.
