Stockton, County Prosecutor's Office Investigating Threat on College's Bathroom Wall

Threat names Wednesday as target date.

Richard Stockton College of New Jersey police are investigating a threatening message that has been posted on a bathroom wall at this time.

The threat was initially discovered by a student on March 9, just prior to the school's spring break.

"We notified the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office at that time, and it's been under investigation since," Special Assistant to the College President Sharon Schulman said. "(Releasing information prior to this) would've done no good because no one was here. Today, we sent out an all-campus email, posted it on the parents' server, posted it on our portal, and posted it on our website. It's still two days in advance."

The threat sets this Wednesday as a target date, although Schulman said there was not a specific person targeted. The threat has since been removed, and the college will have heightened security on Wednesday, but no further information was provided.

The college released a public statement from college President Herman J. Saatkamp's office Monday afternoon.

“While nationally most of these prove to be just threats, we take all threats seriously and are taking all necessary precautions and actions,” Saatkamp said in the statement. “Stockton College is investigating the incident in concert with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, and all appropriate authorities have been brought into the investigation.”

Saatkamp further stated that the college will do its best to keep the campus informed.

“We encourage anyone who has information about this posting or the individual(s) who may have written the bathroom threat to email our Crime Tip Line via the college’s website or portal, or call Campus Police at 609-652-4390,” Saatkamp said. “Please remember that campus safety is the responsibility of everyone on campus and we ask that you be alert to suspicious activities or individuals, not just for this incident, but at all times.”
