Stockton Teachers Earn Statewide Recognition

Student teachers Judith Alton and Brian Hackney were named among 15 other student teachers to receive a New Jersey Distinguished Student Teacher award for 2011.

Two student teachers from the are bringing more statewide attention to the school.

Student teachers Judith Alton and Brian Hackney were named among 15 other student teachers to receive a New Jersey Distinguished Student Teacher award for 2011.

The recipients are selected by the commissioner of education, the New Jersey Department of Education staff and its selection committee after institutes of higher education across the state submit their nominees each year.

“The fact that two of our student teachers have earned this prestigious honor certainly reflects on the quality of our students, faculty and teacher preparation program,” Stockton College Provost and Executive Vice President Harvey Kesselman said.

Alton is a resident of Egg Harbor Township and Hackney is a Northfield resident.

Alton earned two bachelor's degrees from Stockton, one in psychology (summa cum laude) in 2010 and the other in teacher education (summa cum laude) this year. She has written papers on cognitive and psychosocial issue strategies for educational psychology. She has also given a presentation on cognitive dissonance theory.

Hackney earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Rowan University in 2003 and a bachelor's degree in teacher education from Stockton this year. He has worked with developmentally delayed students. He's used high technology teaching tools to design interactive classes.
