Stockton to Open Manahawkin Instructional Site This Fall

Four of the college's top ten municipalities for enrollment are in Ocean County.

The announced on Wednesday the opening of a new instructional site in Manahawkin at 712 East Bay Avenue in the Manahawkin Plaza, a Stockton press release said.

“With the opening of the Manahawkin Instructional Site, Ocean County residents as well as residents from the bordering and nearby counties of Burlington, Mercer and Monmouth, will have the opportunity to enroll in the same high quality Stockton courses – yet closer to home – while pursuing a Stockton degree or a continuing education program,” said Stockton President Herman Saatkamp.

Stockton Provost and Executive Vice President Dr. Harvey Kesselman said that Ocean County is "consistently one of our strongest counties in terms of enrollment."

Four of the top 10 municipalities for enrollment at Stockton are from Ocean County, according to the school's fall 2011 statistics:  Toms River is the third-leading municipality overall with 282 students enrolled, followed by Manahawkin (fifth overall, 186 enrolled), Tuckerton (sixth, 181) and Barnegat (ninth, 146).

In the College enrollment rankings by county, Ocean’s 1,491 students are second only to Atlantic (2,357), the release said.

There are six courses being offered at the new facility, which includes two 35-seat classrooms, computer stations with printing capabilities, and an e-podium, the release said.

The classes offered are Introduction to Management, Language Acquisition, Families, Schools & Communities, Documentary Photography, Science of Forecasting Waves, and Introduction to Sociology.

“We trust the Stockton at Manahawkin opening will mark the beginning of a long and mutually rewarding experience for our Ocean County students and their families, and our many friends in the region,” Saatkamp said.
