Three Absegami High School Soccer Players, One Softball Player Commit on National Signing Day

Senior soccer players Erica Skroski, Lexi Robinson and Kelsey Tierney, and softball player Kelly Lupton, a junior, excelled for the Braves and elevated their respective programs. Now they will try to do the same at the next level.

There is no question that is home to some of the best female athletes in South Jersey.

Signing Day on Wednesday only lends further proof to that fact.

Senior soccer players Erica Skroski, Lexi Robinson and Kelsey Tierney, and softball player Kelly Lupton, a junior, excelled for the Braves and elevated their respective programs.

Now they will try to do the same at the next level.

Skroski, a midfielder who was named to the All-State team, is heading to Rutgers University. Robinson, also a midfielder, signed a letter of intent to play at Catawba College (N.C.). Tierney, a fullback, made her plans to attend Iona College (N.Y.) official. All three received partial scholarships.

“They were part of the most successful teams we have had at Absegami,” Absegami softball coach Elizabeth Lee said. “All three have outstanding work ethics and they deserve to play at the next level. I’m excited for all three girls.”

Lupton, an elite pitcher and hitter, is receiving a full scholarship to play at the University of Maryland. Lupton led the Braves to the Group IV playoffs and already holds several records.

The star pitcher owns the season and career strikeout records for Absegami, and finished the 2011 season with 19 wins. She struck out 294 batters and had an 0.95 ERA.

The pitcher can also do some damage at the plate, belting four home runs and batting just under .400 last season. She also knocked in 30 runs.

Skroski does just about everything for the Braves on the soccer pitch from scoring, passing and getting back on defense.

Robinson is a steady player in the midfield, making an impact on both offense and defense. Tierney is a standout defender, and one of the reasons why the Braves have been so successful over the years.

“I have a better read of the game defensively,” Tierney said. “I have better anticipation where the passes are going when players are coming at me better than for myself from my own team.”

Tierney has no doubt about her choice.

“I knew I was supposed to go there and it was the place for me as soon as I walked on campus,” said Tierney, who was told she would start as a freshman. “That’s my school.

“The field is in the middle of campus and the students were so nice. I was walking and if you looked lost they come up to you and ask if you need help. They will go out of their way to help. The class sizes are small. There are 31 kids per class and there is one lecture hall. All around it just felt like me.”
