Three to Run Unopposed for Three Seats in BOE Elections

The president and vice president will run for their posts, while a third member chose not to run for re-election.

Three will run unopposed for three open seats in the April 27 Board of Education Elections in Galloway Township.

President John Knorr and Vice President George Schwenger will both run for re-election. Board member Eileen Kasunich's term is also up, but she chose not to run for re-election. Former board member Ernest Huggard will run for her seat.

The deadline to run in this year's election was 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The voters will also go to the polls and vote on a school budget that will benefit from an increase in state aid, and would seek just over $28,000 more from the taxpayers for the 2011-12 school year.

Drawing for ballot placement takes place March 17 at 3 p.m. at the Board of Education Administrative building.

The election is April 27, and the reorganization meeting to determine president and vice president will take place at an ensuing Board of Education meeting.

Knorr and Schwenger have both on the board since April of 2002. Huggard was also elected in 2002. His seat was up last year, and he ran for re-election, but lost.

In deciding not to run for re-election, Kasunich is bringing an end to a six-year run on the board.

The election will be held on a Wednesday this year, rather than the traditional Tuesday because of the Easter and Passover holidays. Polls will be open between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Polling places are as follows:

Smithville Elementary School: Districts 1, 8, 9 and 14.

Germania Fire House: Districts 2, 4 and 13.

Arthur Rann Elementary School: Districts 3 and 6.

Pomona Preschool: Districts 5 and 7.

Roland Rogers School: Districts 10, 11 and 12.
