Whiz Kid’s Keys to Awesomeness:

Kristen Kyle watched her brother participate in stage crew when he was in high school, and she knew she wanted to follow in his footsteps. She always looked up to him.

He’s 23 now, and she’s two years away from beginning her career at Absegami, but many of the things she’s doing are helping her prepare to get on stage. She’s done dance, theater and has done consortium.

She was in the Galloway Township Middle School’s performance of Fiddler on the Roof, and was in renditions of Alice in Wonderland and various other plays when she was younger.

“My son went from one play to another and I think she’s going to follow the same pattern,” her mother, Lynn Kyle, said, adding that everything she’s done has been something she wanted to do, and that she has sacrificed doing some things she’s loved doing to try new things. “She stopped doing dance so she could try gymnastics. She’s very good about not doing too much.”

Kristen wanted to try gymnastics to help her cheerleading aspirations.

“I’ve been cheerleading since I was in first grade,” said Kristen Kyle, who has her sights set on being a cheerleader at Absegami. “Absegami cheerleaders are very competitive. I started doing gymnastics to learn how to do handsprings, and all the different things you have to do to be an Absegami cheerleader.”

She is also a Girl Scout, and she’s currently working on her silver badge that will see her doing 40 hours of community service work, including beach and road cleanups and helping with the gardens at Patriot’s Lake Park.

Lynn Kyle believes all her daughter’s activities have helped make her a better student.

“She does her homework as soon as she gets home from school,” said Lynn Kyle, adding that her daughter is in advanced classes for language arts and math. “ … She’s been getting mostly A’s all along. I think a lot of it has come easy. There’s not a lot of time for her to waste. She’s pretty active, which also helps her stay out of trouble.”
