Whiz Kid’s Keys to Awesomeness:

For the last Whiz Kid feature of the school year, Galloway Patch is highlighting Margaret Axelrod, the valedictorian for Absegami High School’s Class of 2011.

Axelrod graduated with a GPA of more than 100, and achieved high grades throughout her high school career.

She was also a member of the school’s cross country and track and field teams, and was a member of the Honors Society. The Absegami track team won the conference championship her last three years on the team, and she was named first-team all Cape-Atlantic League in cross country in the fall.

When next fall comes around, Axelrod will be studying biology or engineering at Georgetown University.

“I love Georgetown,” Axelrod said. “I went there for a visit, and I just love the area.”

She attributed all her success to studying, doing her homework and knowing how to budget her time. She is the first valedictorian her family has ever had, and her step-brother, Daniel Begasse, graduated ranked eighth in the class this year.

“This is the end of my high school years, and I’m excited to start the next chapter,” said Axelrod, who added she will be spending her summer working and going to the beach.

“I’m just going to enjoy my summer.”

Editor’s Note: Although the school year is over, there are still plenty of Whiz Kids out there waiting to be recognized. Little Leaguers, travel teams, summer camps, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, students who were overlooked during the school year and those making general contributions to the community are all potential Whiz Kids.
