Absegami Boys' and Girls' Basketball Teams Are Both Playoff Bound

The boys are the No. 10 seed and the girls are the No. 15 seed in their respective brackets.

Both the Absegami High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams earned their way into the upcoming playoffs.

The NJSIAA released the pairings for the upcoming tournaments on Thursday night with the Absegami boys' squad in the No. 10 slot and the girls' team at No. 15.

The boys will travel to Medford to take on No. 7 Shawnee at 7 p.m. on Feb. 25 in the first round of the Group IV South playoffs.

The Braves (8-8) are on a two-game losing streak, and have lost three of four. However, that came after winning three consecutive games. 

The Rennegades (12-7) own a pair of four-game winning streaks, but also lost five consecutive games in the middle of January. Shawnee has won four of its last five games.

The winner will take on the winner of No. 15 Egg Harbor Township and No. 2 Cherry Hill East. Williamstown is the No. 1 seed. District rival Oakcrest is the No. 3 seed and will host No. 14 Millville.

The Absegami girls (5-8) don't have to go far, as they travel to play No. 2 Egg Harbor Township in the opening round at 6 p.m. on Feb. 28. It will be the third meeting between the two schools.

The Eagles defeated the Braves, 35-24 on Feb. 8, and 36-25 on Jan. 10. The Braves have lost three of four games. The Eagles (14-2) are on a six-game winning streak.

The winner will take on the winner of No. 7 Atlantic City vs. No. 10 Southern. Cherry Hill East is the No. 1 seed in the bracket.
