Absegami Boys' Basketball Team Eliminated from Playoffs

The Braves never recovered from a slow first quarter.

The Absegami High School boys' basketball team never recovered from a bad first quarter on Monday night.

No. 7 Shawnee used a strong start to oust No. 10 Absegami from the NJSIAA Group IV South playoffs with a 52-47 win.

The Renegades jumped out to a 19-12 lead with Josh Borelli scoring 12 of his game-high 16 points in the first quarter. Shawnee's Matt Chiusano and Joe Bodnar added 15 points apiece for Shawnee, which will take on No. 2 Cherry Hill East in the quarterfinals.

Absegami's Avery Cunningham scored 16 points, and Vinny Guinta registered 12 in the loss. Cesar Sandoval added nine points for the Braves, and Lamar Monrow scored seven. The Braves end the season with a 9-13 record.
