Absegami Wrestlers Set for District Tournament

Four Braves will begin tonight's tournament at home as No. 1 seeds.

Absegami High School wrestling fans will have four top seeds to root for during this weekend's District 32 Wrestling Tournament, which begins tonight.

The Braves' Chris Hahn (152 pounds), Alex Gong (171), Kevin Stadtmueller (215) and Steve Schwartz (heavyweight) all earned No. 1 seeds in the event, which is hosted by Absegami today and tomorrow.

The opening round is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the quarterfinals. The semifinals will be on Saturday, followed by the consolation round and the finals.

The top three in each weight class advance to next week's Region 8 Tournament.

Hahn (23-8) is slated to meet up with the winner of the of No. 8 Mainland's DaShown Waller  (8-8) versus No. 9 Buena's Ryan Herald (7-17) in the quarterfinals. Gong (26-5) takes on the winner of No. 9 Atlantic City's Jordan versus No. 8 Mainland's Jae Shim (7-17). Stadtmueller (25-3) will meet No. 9 Oakcrest's Elin Hernandez (5-11) or No. 8 Holy Spirit's Mack Ailes (8-15) in the quartefinals. Schwartz will wait for the winner between No. 9 Mainland's Cole Gasperini (7-14) and No. 8 Middle Township's Sean Bey (5-3).

Absegami's Mike Giampetti (119) and Nate Ross (140) earned third seeds. Giampetti will either face No. 11 Atlantic City's Alfredo Sajche (1-2) or No. 6 Mainland's Garret Ewing (16-11) in the quarterfinals. Ross could face either No. 11 Atlantic City's Joseph Cutugna (2-5) or Egg Harbor Township's James Ingersol (10-8).

John Willette (130) received a a No. 5 seed at 130 and will face No.4 Middle Township's John Mallett (20-7) in the quarterfinals. Absegami's Brandon Goldberg (17-11), the No. 6 seed, faces No. 11 Ocean City's Grimaldi Reyes (2-8) in the opening round at 112.

Gavin Guglielmi (17-12), is No. 6 at 125, and will face No. 11 Buena's Jake Rebber (3-19). Deonde DeGennaro (9-21) is No. 7 at 160 and will face Kenny Doughty (5-9) of EHT.

John Carr (5-22) is No. 8 and will meet No. 9 Atlantic City's Joshua Griffin (13-16) at 189. Frank Malloy (1-6) is the No. 10 seed, and will grapple with No. 7 St. Augustine's Mark Davone (4-6) at 135.

Anthony Tamburelli (3-22) is No. 12 at 145 and will No. 5 Albruce Touaev of EHT (8-14).
