Five Things to Know

Absegami takes on Oakcrest in three sports this week.

1. Mother Nature is usually the winner in the early spring athletic season.

Even if it doesn't rain, the cold weather can make life miserable for high school athletes and athletic directors.

Absegami High School's baseball, softball and tennis teams already were affected by the rain, as last Friday’s games were postponed due to inclement weather and wet fields. More rain is in the forecast for the early part of the week.

The only good news is that that rare warm day in April feels a whole lot better than it normally would.

2. Absegami doesn't have to wait long for rivalry games on the diamond. The Braves baseball team hosts district rival Oakcrest on April 4 at 4 p.m. Absegami is missing some key players, but the rivalry games are usually entertaining.

The softball team travels to Oakcrest for a 4 p.m. contest. Both teams have high expectations. Oakcrest was among the best teams in South Jersey last year and figure to remain there this season.

3. The lacrosse teams have busy weeks.

The boys' squad hosts Middle Township on Monday and Vineland on Wednesday, and are home against Lower Cape May on Friday.

The girls' team travels to Middle on Monday, are on the road at Millville on Wednesday, and at Lower Cape May on Friday.

4. The diamond isn't the only place that will hosts rivals. The boys' and girls' track teams will take on Oakcrest on Thursday. The boys will take on the Falcons and Atlantic City in Galloway.

The girls will travel to Oakcrest to take on the home team and the Vikings. The girls are also scheduled to take part in the West Deptford Relays on Saturday. The boys will also be in action, but at the Moorestown Relays.

5. The baseball and softball teams also begin tournaments on Saturday. The baseball team is scheduled to take part in the Al Hedelt Tournament at Oakcrest. The softball team will take part in the Rancocas Valley Tournament.
