Galloway Middle School Teams Pull Sweep on Opening Day

The baseball and softball teams defeated Dennis Township by scores of 12-0 and 12-1, respectively

The Galloway Township Middle School baseball and softball teams showed why their parents were so determined to see them back on the field.

The baseball team defeated Dennis Township 12-0, and the softball team posted a 12-1 victory over Dennis Township, both at home, on opening day of the season Thursday.

In the baseball game, pitchers Matt Branco, Dave Snyder and Matt Ardente combined for a two-hit shutout, striking six batters combined. Jake Marisco had three hits and five RBIs, and Steve Hewa had two hits with two RBIs and a pair of runs.

Morgan Brown struck out 10 batters and gave up just three hits in four and a half innings of work for the softball team. Alyssa Brady's grand slam in the second inning made the score 10-0, and Sarah Pietropola went 2-for-3 with a walk, three runs and two stolen bases.

The games were made possible by the efforts of the parents, who worked tirelessly to raise the money to put both teams on the field after they were cut by the school system last fall for budgetary reasons.
