World's No. 2 Player Withdraws from ShopRite LPGA Classic

Suzann Pettersen will miss this week's tournament due to illness.

Suzann Pettersen, the No. 2 player in the Rolex Rankings used by the LPGA, will miss this weekend's ShopRite LPGA Classic at the Seaview Dolce Resort due to illness.

"I regret that I will have to miss the ShopRite Classic this week as a result of sickness," Pettersen said in a statement. "It is unfortunate since I enjoy the course and the people of Atlantic City have been so wonderful to me throughout the years

"I have been struggling to get healthy the last two weeks and have been advised that a week off will make an important difference in my recovery so that I am ready to head to Springfield to play in the State Farm Classic."

Pettersen's withdrawal takes some of the heat off top-ranked Yani Tseng, but the field is still an imposing one, as in the world are competing in this weekend's 54-hole, $1.5 million purse tournament, which begins Friday morning.
