Winter to Visit Galloway With a Vengeance

A winter storm and icy temperatures are expected to arrive late on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The new year will bring snow, wind and ice to Galloway Township starting on Thursday night.

Rain starting on Thursday afternoon will turn to snow Thursday night as temperatures begin to fall rapidly. The air temperature will change from higher than 45 degrees on Thursday to lower than 20 degrees by Friday morning.

A winter storm watch is in effect for Galloway Township from Thursday evening into Friday morning. The region can expect 3 to 7 inches of snow — with the higher amounts to the north and west.

The sky will begin to clear on Friday morning, but the high temperature will reach only 20 degrees — with northwest winds of 21 to 25 mph creating wind-chill value as low as -4 degrees. The low temperature on Friday night could fall to 1 degree.

A coastal flood watch is in effect for the region from late Thursday night through Friday afternoon. Exceptionally high spring tides are coinciding with the new moon. Atlantic City is expected to see moderate tidal flooding — with high tides at 7.0 feet above mean low water.

Snow and flooding are expected to be worse farther north along the New Jersey coastline.

Saturday's forecast calls for sun and a high temperature of 37 degrees.
