But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Two officers died in the line of duty over the past year in New Jersey
The two New Jersey law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty over the past year were remembered Tuesday as courageous men who served their state proudly. Millville Police Patrolman Christopher Reeves, killed July 8, 2012 when his patrol car was rammed by a driver fleeing authorities, and New Jersey State Police Detective Sgt. James G. Hoopes, who died of a heart attack during training, were added to the list of the 467 New Jersey officers who have died in the line of duty since 1854. An indictment in the Reeves case was handed up May 8, the South Jersey Times reported. The Coast Guard located a missing person via helicopter Saturday night, May 18, after his 19-foot boat ran aground near a sandbar near Corson's Inlet, the Coast Guard out of Atlantic City announced Sunday morning. The boater’s son, who knew his father’s float plan, reported him missing around 5 p.m. He said his dad was overdue for what was supposed to be a short trip from Corson's Inlet State Park boat ramp to his destination two miles away. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was already in-flight, and was diverted to locate the missing man. A Ventnor man has been indicted on one count of murder and weapons offenses in connection with the death of a Galloway Township teenager 23 years ago, Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain announced Friday morning, May 17. Steven L. Goff, 41, surrendered to Galloway Township on April 1 of this year. He confessed to the murder of Frederick Hart, 15, in 1990. At his initial court appearance that same day, Goff attempted to plead guilty to the crime, but Judge Michael A. Donio didn't allow it, saying he needed legal representation in order to do so. Goff, who was 18 at the time of the murder, states that on May 8, 1990, he stabbed Hart multiple times with a knife in the woods behind the Clubs Condominium. Hart was reported …

The promotion of Chris Doyle from lieutenant to the rank of captain was done so to keep up with an evolving police department, Galloway Police Chief Patrick Moran said following the council meeting on Tuesday night, May 14. “We’re expecting retirements over the next several years, and we need to move people into key positions,” Moran said. Doyle becomes the second captain on the force, along with Allan Kane. In January, Chris McGinty was promoted to the position of corporal and Mark D’Esposito was promoted to sergeant. Doyle’s promotion leaves the department with a vacant lieutenant’s position that Moran said would not be filled. There are no lieutenants on the force. Robert Ebberup, the attorney who will represent Anthony Senatore, said that by arresting Senatore Monday night at dinner time, the office of Acting Atlantic County Prosecutor James P. McClain was engaging in "grandstanding," Nj.com reports. The New Jersey State Police ranked second among state police agencies nationally in terms of Twitter followers, according to statistics recently released by the IACP Center for Social Media. The agency has 23,618 followers, trailing only the Massachusetts State Police, which had a whopping 62,493 followers, as of April 30. The Texas Department of Public Safety (18,787), the Ohio State Highway Patrol (13,587) and the Indiana State Police (13,466) round out the top five. Students and faculty at Absegami High School are returning to the building following an early morning evacuation due to a chemical spill, according to The Press of Atlantic City. The spill of an unidentified material took place on the second floor of the school around 9 a.m. Students and faculty were allowed to return to the building just before noon. Up to six people were taken to the hospital with symptoms.
