Stockton College Recommended for $54 Million in State Funds

The funding is for capital construction projects.

Following a positive vote on the "Building Our Future" bond act in the  November election, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey acted quickly and is set to receive state funds for a pair of capital improvement projects. New Jersey Secretary of Higher Education Rochelle Hendricks has recommended the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey receive $54 million in state funds for capital construction projects, the college announced on Tuesday night, April 30. This includes $21.5 million for the college's Unified Science Center and $13.5 million for a 60,000-square-foot new classroom building. State funds will provide for 75 percent of the building costs, with the college providing the additional 25 percent. The projects are among 176 …

Over $440,000 Raised at Stockton College Scholarship Gala

Eddie Money provided the surprise entertainment for the evening.

A surprise performance from rocker Eddie Money highlighted a Richard Stockton College of New Jersey Scholarship Gala that raised over $440,000, the college announced over the weekend. All proceeds go toward Stockton College Foundation’s fund-raising efforts aimed at reaching an additional $2 million goal for scholarships, according to a statement issued by the college. Thus far, the college has raised a total of $950,000 toward that goal, according to Stockton College President Herman J. Saatkamp. Mainland Among the 50 Best Schools in the State, Says U.S. News and World Report

The Atlantic County Institute of Technology fell just outside the top 50.

Mainland Regional High School made the list of top high schools in the state of New Jersey as identified by U.S. News and World Report. Mainland, based in Linwood, was ranked No. 41, while the Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) fell just outside the top 50. Mainland's student-to-teacher ratio is 16:1, which is higher than the New Jersey average. The school has 1,550 students and 99 teachers. Its College Readiness score is 35.3, which is higher than the New Jersey average, and students scored a 3.2 proficiency in Math and 3.3 in Language Arts, both higher than the state average. ACIT, based out of Mays Landing, had a student-to-teacher ratio of 11:1, which is below the state average. The school has 748 students and 66 teachers. …

Galloway Spring Football Team Wins First Game

The team defeated Deptford, 33-6.

Tyshan Roary scored three touchdowns to lead Galloway to a 33-6 victory over Deptford in the team's first game in the Delaware Valley 8th Grade Spring Football League on Saturday, April 14, in Camden. Galloway quarterback Steven Waszen helped engineer the offense in the first half, as it scored the first 26 points of the game. Quarterback Jesse Milza took played the second half of the game, tossing a pair of touchdown passes, to Owen Bowles and Chris Dolan, respectively. Reggie Charles ran for an extra point, and kicker Pat Moran was responsible for another PAT. Absenteeism, Mathematical Enrollments Present Questions for Galloway Schools in New Reports

It's the first year the state is using its new School Performance Report system.

Just one of the Galloway Township School District’s schools met the target goal for Chronic Absenteeism in the School Performance Report released last week by Gov. Chris Christie’s office. The report issued this week replaces the outdated school report cards, the Christie Administration said. Reports now include data on college and career readiness, and place schools into peer groups. It also measures college preparedness in different ways, particularly through Chronic Absenteeism and the number of students enrolled in Algebra I at the middle school level. Students are considered chronically absent when they miss 10 percent of the days in a given school year for any reason. Any school over 6 percent has not met the target set forth by the …

Stockton College Students Donate Over $2,500 For Sandy Relief

The dinner was held April 3.

Students from the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey donated over $2,500 to Superstorm Sandy relief as the result of a dinner and auction held on April 3, college officials said on Friday, April 12. Hospitality and Tourism Management students in Dr. Michael Scales’ Events Planning and Catering Management class raised the money through a "Restore the Shore" themed event. The funds were donated to the American Red Cross Southern Shore Chapter. Over 50 prizes were given through the auction, including stays at multiple Atlantic City hotels, restaurant gift cards, themed gift baskets and a gift certificate to the Dusk nightclub at Caesars Atlantic City Hotel and Casino. Galloway Enters Football Team in Spring Football League

Play begins today.

The Galloway Township Athletic Association's (GTAA) eighth-grade football team begins play in the Delaware Valley Spring Football League today, April 13, against Deptford in Camden. The Delaware Valley Spring Football League is made up of nine teams from several counties in New Jersey, and is designed to give eighth graders the chance to play high school football, coach David Carmen said. Carmen and assistant coach Mike Waszen assembled a team of 23 players that will compete against teams from Deptford, Camden, Palmyra, Gloucester Township, Cherry Hill and Willingboro. The players all have football experience from either the Galloway Renegades or the Galloway Mustangs varsity programs, said Carmen who has coached both teams over the last …

Absegami's Academic Achievements About Average Compared to the Rest of the State

This is according to the new School Performance Reports.

Absegami High School is about average when compared to the rest of the schools in the State of New Jersey and performs very high when compared to the other 30 schools in its peer group, according to the School Performance Report released this week by Gov. Chris Christie’s office. The report issued this week replaces the outdated school report cards, the Christie Administration said. Reports now include data on college and career readiness, and place schools into peer groups. Absegami is about average among schools in the state and above average in its peer group in this area, as well. Lacrosse Star to Launch Stockton College's Lacrosse Program

Kim Williams hired as first head coach for the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey's women's LAX team, set to join NCAA in 2014.

Kim Williams has lacrosse running through her veins. So much so that she’s been entrusted with coaching–and launching–the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey's first-ever women’s lacrosse program, set to take the field in the spring of 2014, according to the college. Williams, a graduate of West Morris Central High School, has spent the past three seasons as an assistant coach for Colby College’s team, which is currently ranked sixth in the nation. Under her tutelage, six players have received All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associaiton, the Richard Stockton College athletic department said. Galloway Teacher Captures County's Highest Honor

Terry Dougherty has been named Atlantic County Teacher of the Year.

The best teacher in Atlantic County comes from Galloway Township. Roland Rogers Elementary School Third Grade Teacher Terry Dougherty has been named Atlantic County Teacher of the Year, Galloway Township Superintendent of Schools Dr. Annette Giaquinto announced on Tuesday, April 9. Dougherty has been employed in the school district for 15 years. Her title as top educator in the county comes on the heels of her recognitions as Roland Rogers and Galloway School District teacher of the year. She's also currently participating in the New Jersey Teacher Advisory Panel PILOT program at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
