The Galloway Township Middle School softball team is hosting its first Peanut Butter and Jelly food drive. Beginning Monday, May 20, and running through May 31, the Lady Grizzlies are asking the school's students and members of the community to bring in whole jars of peanut butter and jelly to donate to a local food bank. "I have always been a big believer in student-athletes being leaders on and off the field and with such a special group of girls this season, we didn't hesitate at the chance to help out the community," co-coach John O'Kane said via email on Monday. Harrah's Resort Atlantic City will sponsor the two pro-ams leading into the 2013 ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer, tournament officials announced. The pro-ams offer amateur golfers the opportunity to team up with LPGA professionals, and will take place on May 29 and 30. The Bay Course at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, the Galloway National Golf Club and the Atlantic City Country Club will host the pro-ams. The Bay Course is also the host course for the 54-hole, $1.5 million purse main attraction that takes place from May 31-June 2 and will be aired live on The Golf Channel. “We are delighted that Harrah’s Resort is returning as the presenting sponsor of this year’s Official Pro-Am,” Tournament Director Leela Narang said…

The top 10 players in the world and 97 of the top 100 will pursue the title of ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer champion when the tournament commences on Friday, May 31 on the Bay Course at the Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Resort. The field will include defending champion and No. 2 in the world, Stacy Lewis, as well as Inbee Park, the world's No. 1 player. Lewis spent time as the world's top player for four weeks earlier this year. LPGA golfers have until May 28, 5 p.m., to officially commit to the 54-hole, $1.5 million tournament. Galloway beat Gloucester, 22-6, last Saturday.
Galloway Township is 2-0 in its first season of competition in the Delaware Valley Spring Football League following a 22-6 victory over Gloucester Township last Saturday, April 20, in Pennsauken. Dylan Scaranda scored two touchdowns for Galloway, one rushing and one receiving. The first score came in the first half of action, on a pass from QB Jesse Milza to Christian Ayer. A Pat Moran two-point conversion made the score 8-0. Gloucester pulled to within two points when it scored a touchdown on a sweep to the left before halftime. Scaranda's two scores came in the second half, first on a fourth-down goal-line plunge and then on a reception from QB Steve Waszen. Moran added another two-point conversion for the final tally. Tyshan Roary scored three touchdowns to lead Galloway to a 33-6 victory over Deptford in the team's first game in the Delaware Valley 8th Grade Spring Football League on Saturday, April 14, in Camden. Galloway quarterback Steven Waszen helped engineer the offense in the first half, as it scored the first 26 points of the game. Quarterback Jesse Milza took played the second half of the game, tossing a pair of touchdown passes, to Owen Bowles and Chris Dolan, respectively. Reggie Charles ran for an extra point, and kicker Pat Moran was responsible for another PAT. The Galloway Township Athletic Association's (GTAA) eighth-grade football team begins play in the Delaware Valley Spring Football League today, April 13, against Deptford in Camden. The Delaware Valley Spring Football League is made up of nine teams from several counties in New Jersey, and is designed to give eighth graders the chance to play high school football, coach David Carmen said. Carmen and assistant coach Mike Waszen assembled a team of 23 players that will compete against teams from Deptford, Camden, Palmyra, Gloucester Township, Cherry Hill and Willingboro.
