One comment put Shea's over the top in the closest Readers' Choice vote ever.
One person can make a difference, and that was illustrated in this week’s Readers’ Choice voting. In the closest vote since Readers’ Choice debuted, three restaurants tied for first place in voting for the best place to get a sandwich in Galloway. Of the 42 votes received in this week’s poll, 24 of them went three ways, with eight people voting for Sack o Subs, Shea’s Café and Bakery and Vic’s Sub Shop. When going to the directory, things became only slightly more clear, as both Sack o Subs and Shea’s had five star ratings, and Vic’s was eliminated from consideration. With two shops still in consideration, it was time to go to the comments, of which there were only five, the first three of which were suggestions as to what to add from the …

Galloway Patch readers prefer to take their mothers here for Mother's Day Brunch.
Although there were a few readers who voiced their preference to stay home and have the family cook for mom, there were 44 total votes in this week’s Readers’ Choice Poll: Where are you going for Mother’s Day Brunch? The Smithville Inn was the overwhelming favorite among Galloway Patch readers, garnering 52 percent of the vote (23 percent.) Mario’s Uptown Grill in Egg Harbor City brought in five votes, as did the “other” option, which we’re guessing was a mix of those who made their own suggestions in the comments section, and those who would rather enjoy Mother’s Day Brunch in the privacy of their own homes. When business ratings are factored in, the Smithville Inn earned a total of 18 points, followed by Mario’s Uptown Grill with 16, and…

It was voted best flower shop in Galloway with 67 percent of the vote.
This week’s Readers’ Choice poll was a true reflection of the way Galloway Township feels about its flower shops: there’s no place like Pocket Full of Posies. With 72 of the 106 votes cast in this week’s poll, Pocket Full of Posies ran away with 67 percent of the vote. Mystical Enchantment was second with 25 votes for 23 percent. There were only eight comments, but all of them were solidly in favor of Pocket Full of Posies, even though two of them came from the same person. “Absolutely by far the best florist and outstanding community involvment from the owners, Bethann and Bryan Perone,” Galloway Patch user June Grentz commented at 3:09 Monday afternoon, the day the poll launched. She came back 10 minutes later and wrote: “Of course I~m …

It edged Famous Bagel Gourmet by two points.
Bagel Gourmet is the favored spot to get a bagel among Galloway Patch readers. Famous Bagel Gourmet is next in line. This week’s Readers’ Choice poll saw 28 people cast their vote, with 14, or 50 percent, of them choosing Bagel Gourmet as the top bagel distributor in Galloway. Famous Bagel Gourmet came in second in the voting portion of the poll, with six votes, and Shea’s Café was third with three votes. Shea’s closed the gap a little in the ratings portion of the scoring, as it tied with Barista’s for first place with a five-star rating. Bagel Gourmet and Famous Bagel Gourmet tied for second, meaning that in the final scoring, Bagel Gourmet came out on top with 18 points, followed by Famous Bagel and Shea’s, who each had 16. Where are the best ones in Galloway?
A quick google search of the word bagel reveals that one of America’s favorite rip-off foods –half the bread is missing, after all, just like the donut- has a controversial and convoluted history. It’s year of origin is unclear, people aren’t quite sure if it originated in Poland, Germany or elsewhere and, in 2009, The Atlantic ran an article titled “The Secret History of Bagels.” No matter what it’s origins, one thing is clear: the bagel is here to stay. It tastes great with jelly, cream cheese and butter, and it’s become a staple of breakfast sandwiches everywhere. This leaves just two questions: 1. Where does the bagel go from here? 2. Where is the best place in Galloway to purchase said food product? This week’s Readers’ Choice…

With 27 of the 47 votes, the park behind the library was the clear winner.
Galloway Patch Readers have spoken, and not only did they enjoy this week's poll more than last week's poll about taxes, they voiced their approval of Imagination Station as the top park in Galloway Township. Of the 47 people who voted in this week's poll, 27 selected Imagination Station as the premier destination to bring their children to play. Patriot Lake and Veterans Memorial Park at Glenn by the Bay tied for second with seven votes apiece, and Gabriel Field and Tartaglio Park each received three votes. All parks had the same rating in our directory, so the votes were the deciding factor in this week's poll, which can be found below.

Where do you bring your kids to play?
It’s Galloway Patch’s second “It’s nice out, what’s your favorite …” Readers’ Choice poll. Last time, we asked what your favorite place to get ice cream was. This time, we’re talking parks: What’s your favorite park in Galloway Township? Here are some of our choices, but if we're leaving one off the list, let us know in the comments, and we can add it: Gabriel Field Imagination Station Patriot Lake Tartaglio Park Veterans Memorial Park at Glenn by the Bay Voting in the poll below is open until 9 a.m. Friday. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. Remember the Patch points system: the top three vote getters in the polls receive votes, i.e. 10 points for first place, 8 for second and 6 for…
